After months of speculation it seems like Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) might be the first Republican to make it official that they are indeed running for the GOP nomination for president. A political staffer for Cruz said that the Senator will be making an important speech Monday morning at Liberty University, the Daily Beast reports. “The aide would not answer questions as to what the speech would be about, except to say that it would be worth our while to attend.”
At the moment the only candidate that has a time table set for an announcement is Senator Rand Paul (R-Kentucky), who plans to make the announcement the second full week of April. This would be a good move for Ted Cruz, who has so far failed to electrify the GOP base and is way behind the pack in polls. Will making it official before anyone else help Cruz gain traction or is he doomed in a race that already looks like a three way race between Jeb Bush, Scott Walker and Ben Cardin?
