I think we all saw this coming from Fox News today. Mere hours after Patricia Arquette won the Oscar for best supporting actress in the movie “boyhood” and used her brief moment on stage to give a speech about equal pay for equal work and women’s rights, Fox News wasted no time being horrible. One Fox News host on Sunday night wished that the Oscars could go back to the good old days of “class” and “elegance” aka when women were seen but not heard and only judged by her appearance and dress.
Fox News’s Stacey Dash stated that she was, “appalled” by the speech. Dash continued, “I could not believe it. I mean, Patricia Arquette needs to do her history.” “I didn’t get the memo that I didn’t have any rights,” she added. Dash cited the Equal Pay Act signed by President John F. Kennedy in 1963 as proof that there is no wage inequality in this country, only that is simply not true. Women are paid an average of 78 cents to every dollar that men earn. A study by the American Association of University Women found that gender pay inequality exists in all 50 states. Once more, women only make up 14.6% of top executive officer positions at Fortune 500 companies, according to the research company Catalyst.
