It hasn’t even been a year ago removed from the San Francisco 49ers losing to the Seattle Seahawks in the final seconds of the NFC Championship game that we now find the San Francisco 49ers front office looking for their next head coach. It is breathe taking considering Jim Harbaugh took the San Francisco 49ers to three NFC Championships and a Super Bowl in his first three years with the team. What caused all this? We are likely to find out in the days and week ahead more about what caused the breakup because so far publicly there hasn’t been much of a justification for Harbaugh ouster besides him being difficult to work with. Is there more to the story?
The player Harbaugh’s departure affects most is his hand-picked quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, who initially thrived under Harbaugh’s guidance but regressed this past season. Whoever is hired as the next coach will have to either be an offensive-minded coach or bring in an offensive coordinator that will tailor the offense around Kaepernick’s unique skills.
Niners will be joined by the Bears and likely a few other teams such as the Jets, Falcons and Raiders in searching for the next head coach. Harbaugh though is leaving huge shoes to fill, unlike with the other open head coaching jobs that will soon be available in the NFL.
