The San Francisco 49ers have cut defensive lineman Ray McDonald after news broke earlier today that police had searched his home in connection with a sexual assault investigation. This is not the first time Ray McDonald finds himself in the headlines this NFL season, earlier this season he was arrested and investigated over charges of domestic violence, an offense that saw Ray Rice be banned the whole season for. The San Francisco 49ers stood by McDonald during the whole investigation and he was allowed to play.
General Manager Trent Baalke said the San Francisco 49ers made the decision to terminate McDonald’s contract because of a pattern of behavior that the team finds unacceptable. There’s no indication yet on whether McDonald will be charged in the new sexual assault case, but it’s clear that the 49ers have decided that McDonald is someone they no longer want representing their franchise. The San Francisco 49ers right now have a enough drama between the front office, Jim Harbaugh, Colin Kaepernick’s regression and the likelihood that they will miss the playoffs this season after three consecutive NFC Championship appearances.
