Photographers’ Delight

The first president of the United States to have his photograph taken was President John Quincy Adams. It was taken in 1843, long after he left office. The first president in office to have his picture taken was the 11th President James Polk, in 1849. Their pictures were taken with the first ever photography method announced to the public, called the Dagurreotype, which was developed in 1837.
