Airstrikes start on the (un)Islamic State

Following Obama’s speech to the state last week, the US began airstrikes on IS strongholds. The first airstrikes began on Monday (September 15th) and targeted an outpost near Baghdad that have been attacking the Iraqi military. The US House is set to vote tomorrow on authorizing the President’s proposal to train and arm Syrian rebels, with the Senate following later in the week. World leaders are currently meeting in Paris to discuss further coalition planes; representatives from 30 countries are present, including the 5 permanent members of the UN and 9 Arab states.
